Zhangjiajie city is located in the northwest of Hunan Province. It is known for the world-famous UNESCO heritage site “Wulingyuan Scenic Area”. The Scenic Area is comprised several national parks and the most famous of which is Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. The 243 square mile park is full of stunning karst pillars of sandstone and covered with sub-tropical rain forest. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park was recognized as China’s first national forest park.
As China’s first national forest park, Zhangjiajie is known for the hidden valleys, and mysterious limestone caves. Its quartzite-sandstone formations found nowhere else in the world also inspired the Hallelujah Mountains in the movie Avatar. Other highlights such as cruise on the serene Baofeng Lake, ride the world’s longest cable car to Tianmen (Heaven Gate) Mountain, and walk across the world’s longest and highest glass bridge over the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, etc. You can also extend your tour by visiting the nearby Fenghuang ancient town to experience the colorful minority culture and distinct ancient architecture building style.
Zhangjiajie belongs to subtropical humid monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. It’s neither cold in winter nor hot in summer. However, the best time to visit Zhangjiajie is in April and October with average temperature at around 65-70°F.
