Area Introduction
The Three Parallel Rivers Area of Yunnan encompasses the majestic land hemmed in by the mighty Yangtze, the free-flowing Mekong and the wild Salween. Many of the twenty five different ethnic minorities currently living in Yunnan can be found in this area which features snow-capped peaks more than 6,000 meters high, glaciated gorges and terraced fields. These peaceful people have for generations not only preserved, but also nurtured this “Shangri-La”.

Pickup from Lijiang airport.
Arrive in Lijiang (2400m above sea level). Guide meet and transfer to hotel for check in upon arrival. If time permits, visit Lijiang Old Town. Welcome dinner at the hotel.
Visit Dayan Ancient Town – Discover the Forgotten Kingdom. Afternoon, drive to Tacheng (2020m above sea level) along the valley of Yangtze river (3.5-4 hrs). Relax and enjoy a walk in the tranquil town where you’ll see the beautiful rice and flower fields, and minority villages.
Morning visit the Dharma Cave and take a walk along the Pilgrimage Road. After lunch visit Hada village and learn how to make soy milk and Tofu in a local family to enjoy the local life.
Morning visit Yunnan Golden Monkey National Park and take a 1-2 hours hike into the nature reserve. After lunch, continue driving to Meili (3600m above sea level) in afternoon and enjoy the amazing scenery. Upon arrival, visit local family and learn how to print prayer flags.
Morning enjoy the sunrise over Mt. Kawagebo from lodge balcony. Morning tour visit Qudengge and experience the local Tibetan praying ceremony. Activity options for the rest of the day:
A: Follow in the footsteps of Plant Hunter’s to alpine pasture and discover the local way of living. (From May to Oct only)
B: Hiking trip to Baima Snow Mountain area (4-6 hours).
C: Leisure walking or bicycle riding along the scenic route around Feilaisi temple to admire the amazing view of the Meili Snow Mountain.
Morning enjoy the sunrise over Mt. Kawagebo from lodge balcony. Transfer to the town of Benzilan and visit the Dongzhulin Monastery on the way. Built in 1667 AD, it is the earliest birthplace of Tibetan Buddhism in Yunnan. Here you’ll learn and explore the myth of Shambhala. Afternoon, transfer to Shangri-la (3300m above sea level) and visit the Napa Lake along the way.
Morning visit the Songzanlin Monastery, also know as the “Little Potala Palace”, it’s the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan. Enjoy an outdoor BBQ lunch overlooking the monastery. Afternoon, you may explore the Shangri-La old town on own or participate a Tibetan mediation course at the lodge.
