Do I need a visa for China?

All foreign citizens must apply visa to China except during any of the following circumstances:

  • Citizen of Singapore, Brunei or Japan with an ordinary passport does not need visa for stay less than 15 days.
  • Citizens of the following 51 countries with confirmed flight and valid visa to the third country is allowed to stay in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong Province and Chengdu without visa from 72 hours up to 6 days:
    Albania, Argentina, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Mexico, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States

Single vs Double vs Multiple entry?

All USA passport holders will be granted a 10-year multiple entry visa upon approval.

Non-USA citizens may choose “Single”, “Double” or “Multiple” based on citizen status. Single entry is sufficient for typical tourist traveling to and within mainland China.

How Long is the Visa good for?

For US passport holders, China Tourist visa is normally issued 60 days stay with multiple entry valid up to 10 years.

For non-US passport holders, visa is normally issued up to 60 days stay with single or double entry valid for 3 or 6 months.

However, Chinese Consulate may issue a visa with limited entry, shorter duration and validity at their discretion.

How long is the process?

East Coast states include: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.

For applicants in other states:

Due to difference in Chinese consulate jurisdiction, certain visa application must be processed at a different consulate depending on applicant’s home state/area.

In addition to the normal fee, an additional $50 handling fee is required for all out-of-state processing.

1 China visa application form

Download and fill out the application on computer, print, and sign the last page. (Hand written application or modification will not be accepted) Please refer to the Sample Form for instruction and reference.

Note:

When first opening the file, you may receive a pop-up message asking to install Chinese language support. You must install in order to read and fill the form.

2 Original passport

  • Passport must be valid for at least another 6 months from travel date and has blank page for visa sticker. (The last few amendment pages are not valid for visa us.)
  • If there is an old China visa within same passport, include a photocopy of it.
  • Non-US passport holders must provide photocopy of the US Green Card, or valid US visa.

3 Passport Photo

  • 1 x standard passport photo (2″x 2″) taken within 6 months.
  • Do not use the same photo as in passport unless it’s issued within 6 months.
  • Photo printed on paper or poor quality is not acceptable.

4 Travel Evidence

  1. Confirmation for round trip flight ticket to China.
  2. Hotel confirmation.

If you are staying at a friend’s home, an invitation letter is required and must include following:

  • Traveler’s personal information: name, gender, date of birth, etc.
  • Visiting purpose and length of stay.
  • Relationship with the applicant and who will bear the trip cost.
  • Host information: name of the individual or company, address and contact info.
  • If invited by an organization, supplied info must include letter head with signature and company seal. If invited by individual, must include a photocopy of the local ID.

Normally, Invitation letter can be submitted as a photocopy. However, original invitation and/or personal interview might be requested at visa officer’s discretion.

We suggest using UPS, FedEx or USPS. Plain mail is not recommended. 

Check & Review

We will check and fix all minor mistakes. We’ll contact you if any document is missing or not met by requirement.

Consulate Review

Standard review by consulate takes 4 business days.

Return Mailing

We will return the passport to the address provided via FedEx 2-day service unless requested otherwise.
